The best time to visit Marrakech for a private stay: a season-by-season guide
Marrakech is a year-round destination, but each season changes the experience. Here is what to expect, month after month, when you plan a private stay.
Marrakech enjoys more than 300 days of sunshine a year, which makes it one of the few destinations where a private stay works in every season. The question is not really whether to go, but what kind of experience you want: long lunches by the pool, cool mornings in the Medina, or fireside dinners after a day in the Atlas.
Spring (March to May): the favourite season
The gardens are in bloom, the orange trees perfume the Palmeraie and days are warm without being hot. It is the ideal season for family gatherings and milestone celebrations: everyone is outdoors from breakfast to dinner, and the evenings are perfect for dining on the terraces.
Summer (June to August): slow days, magical nights
Afternoons are very hot, so life follows the rhythm of the pools and the shade of the loggias. Mornings are for excursions, afternoons for swimming and siesta, and the night — warm and starry — for long dinners outside. A palace with several pools and a private chef comes into its own in summer.
Autumn (September to November): the golden season
The heat softens, the light turns golden and the city regains its energy. Autumn is superb for groups of friends, anniversaries and small weddings. The first weeks of November are often still warm enough for the pool.
Winter (December to February): sun by day, fire by night
Days are mild and sunny, nights are cold. It is the season of snow on the Atlas peaks seen from the city, of hammam rituals and fireplaces. The end-of-year holidays are the busiest time of the year: book well in advance.
Good to know
- Ramadan moves every year with the lunar calendar. Life slows during the day and becomes festive after sunset; a private estate lets you keep your own rhythm.
- School holidays in Europe (Easter, October, Christmas) are peak periods — plan six to twelve months ahead for a full privatisation.
- Flights: direct flights connect Marrakech to most European capitals in two and a half to three and a half hours.
How far ahead to book
Because the palace is privatised by a single party at a time, each date can only be booked once. For a spring or autumn weekend, or the end-of-year holidays, start the conversation nine to twelve months ahead. For other periods, three to six months is usually enough. Longer stays are rewarded: from six days, the daily rate is reduced by 10%, which makes a week in the Palmeraie a very different proposition from a long weekend.
When you write to the palace, share the season you have in mind rather than a single date: the team can then suggest the days with the best light, the quietest city and the most comfortable temperatures for your group.
Which season for which stay?
For a multi-generational family reunion, choose spring or autumn. For a birthday with friends around the pool, early summer or September. For a quiet winter retreat, December to February outside the holidays. Whatever the season, privatising a villa in Marrakech means the house adapts to your rhythm — not the other way round.
Discover where the palace is in the Palmeraie, then send us your dates.
